I wanted to be a musician as a kid! I’ve only really decided that psychology is for me 4 years ago 🙂

When I was a kid I wanted to be a teacher as I enjoyed bossing people about! Then during my A-levels, I really enjoyed learning about psychology so I decided to study it at university. However, I never really considered psychology as a career until a lecturer at university allowed me to help out with some of her research.

I know it sounds silly, but as a child I always wanted to be an ice cream man. Although I was interested in science, I think I preferred the idea of having unlimited ice cream at my disposal more.

I always enjoyed listening to other people’s stories, what they’re going through, my parenst thought I was very observant. So I love learning about the world and seeing how we all fit in. Psychology gave me the knowledge to delve deeper into concepts like perceptions, interpretations, emotions, predicting behaviours, as well as interventions and marketing hacks. So I fell in the subject almost immediately and I’ve never looked back! 🙂

The first time I wanted to be something was when I was five- I wanted to be a writer.

By the time I was 15 I wanted to be lots of things- a lawyer, a DJ, a surgeon, a baker. For a long time I wanted to run my own bed and breakfast! But in the back of my mind I wanted to be able to write.

I thought about being a psychologist when I was 16, mostly because my friends would say it was easy to talk to me! Who knew that them saying this would lead me down a whole career! And…I still get to write!

I remember wanting to be a window cleaner – I thought it’d be so interesting getting to look into people’s houses and see what they were up to!

During my GCSE’s and the first year of A-levels, I was working towards applying to be a Doctor, but then I realised I was too squeamish! I applied for a very broad course at university to leave my options open – I studied topics across lots of areas of Biology, including Psychology, and I let myself decide along the way what I wanted to specialise in. It’s OK not to be completely sure what you want to do yet!

I had no idea what I wanted to be! When I left school at 18 thought about being an accountant, and ended up working in finance for 18 years.
