This is a really good question and quite the toughie to answer.

A lot of the problems people have with mental health, it’s not like a disease where you can take a medicine and it’s all gone. Problems with your mental health can be because of your genes (which can’t just go away) or with difficult things in your life and environment (which you might be able to change but not with medicine).

Medicine can help sometimes with different mental health problems but instead of curing them we think about “managing” them instead. Making them easier to deal and live with. And we don’t just use medicine. We use therapy too to help people understand their problems and how they can deal with them. It’s not exactly a cure because the problem won’t just go away by taking one medicine one time, but problems like ADHD can be managed. People can live happy lives with combinations of medicine and therapy.
